St. Matthias Episcopal Church was established in Summerton as a Mission in the Diocese of South Carolina and was consecrated by The Rt. Rev. Ellison Capers, Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, on St. Matthias Day, February 24, 1899.

In March of 2005, St. Matthias applied for and was granted Parish Status by vote of the 215th Convention of the Diocese of South Carolina. Our purpose as a Parish is to respond to the Great Commission by presenting Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit that all may come to know Him as Savior and follow Him as Lord in the fellowship of His Church.

We strive to "contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints", and we affirm Classical Anglican Christianity.

It is our prayer that through our worship, study and devotion all would draw nearer to the Lord. If you will be visiting with us or would like more information about St. Matthias, the Diocese of South Carolina, the Episcopal Church or the Anglican Communion, please contact the Rev.
